Frequently Asked Questions
What are bare root plants?
A bare root plant is a plant without being in a container with soil. They are bare roots packaged in wet paper and dipped in the moisture-locking gel.
Why do you ship plants in a dormant state?
Dormant plants adjust readily to new surroundings, typically leading to more vigorous, robust growth and significantly higher survival rates (96-98%) than plants already in bloom.
How should I plant my bare root plants upon arrival?
See our videos and planting instructions for further information.
When can I expect my bare root plants to start growing?
Trees and shrubs are sent in a dormant state without leaves or blooms. They typically start to green up in spring, usually a week or two after other trees or shrubs in your yard begin to leaf out. For perennials, ferns, vines, or ground covers planted underground, if temperatures are above 70 degrees, a small portion (1-5%) may emerge in that same spring or summer, but most will sprout the following spring. Please wait until your other plants have emerged and allow a couple of extra weeks for the new ones before considering a claim.
Do you offer any guarantees on your plants?
We Offer a One-Year Warranty.
Our Rationale for Providing a 1-Year Warranty: Our "Spring Will Tell the Tale" Warranty is issued as an in-store credit.
How can I determine the best plants for my zone?
Our website includes a plant finder tool, allowing you to filter by zone, bloom color, bloom season, light requirements, and more.
